
Educational workshops are provided by our Counsellors on a regular basis on issues pertaining to Alzheimer's disease and
other dementias. These include workshops on the different stages of the disease,
different types of dementia, and caregiver stress and coping strategies.

Alzheimer 101
Exploring together what can improve the quality of life for the person with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia, and their caregivers in the early stages.
This workshop is for family caregivers.
Topics include the nature of Alzheimer's disease, communication guidelines, caregiver coping and supports available.

The Journey Continues: Communication and Behaviour Strategies
Is a workshop for family caregivers of individuals in the middle stages of Alzheimer's disease, with a focus on understanding and managing behaviours such as agitation and wandering.
Topics include an overview of the disease,

Bringing Choices to Late Stage Care
This workshop for family caregivers addresses the physical, social and ethical issues associated with the late stages of Alzheimer's disease and also provides them with a model for decision-making.
Topics include: an overview of the end stage of Alzheimer's disease, goals and guiding principles, difficult decisions and caregiver coping.

Activities to do with Your Family Member
This workshop will help caregivers find effective activities for their family member. The goal is to give practical ideas on how family members can spend quality time together by identifying and drawing upon the person's remaining strengths.

Advance Care Planning
This educational session for persons affected by dementia and their family caregivers.
Topics include: advance care planning, what is a Power of Attorney, the role of a Substitute Decision-maker and consent.

A workshop for family caregivers whose relative with dementia lives out of town.

Mini Retreat for Caregivers
Family members will be able to discuss their caregiving experiences and practice basic mindfulness techniques while exploring various forms of expressive art. No previous art of writing experience is required.
This group takes place 1:00 to 4:00pm and runs September 24, October 22 and November 26.
